This is how we Dreem Reality

Our Mission: To educate ourselves and others on the environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability through the creation and sharing of research, specialty projects, and hands-on experience. To develop an Education and Research Eco-Facility to explore, enact, and demonstrate sustainability in a community setting.

Cross Country Sustainable Community Research Project!

Picture
For about 8 years I have been Dreeming of an exciting research project that would take me across the country (possibly the world), exploring different sustainable communities. Back then, in 2003, I was in college and just starting to be exposed to ideas of sustainability and the power of community. It was my hopes that I could visit these communities, work with them, live with them, and ask many questions.

I wanted to know HOW they operate - what works and what doesn't. Not only would this research project encompass the different ways these communities were environmentally sustainable, but would also explore how they were able to pay the bills as well as keep the people of the community happy, healthy, and motivated to create. Knowing that one day I would want to be part of an intimate community of people working and living together - I wanted to make sure that the community that I joined or built would be based on real experience.

At that time I had no idea that D.r.e.e.m. Reality would exist but could feel that one day I would accomplish both the research project and the community. Now, about three years into DR's growth - it's time! We have some good "hands on" research experience under our belts (Hawaiian Research Project and DreemKitchen 2011) and are ready to take this one on.

You may have heard of our long term goal to have an "Educational and Research Eco-Facility", which we playfully call "DreemLand" for now. This will be not only a place to host an environment to teach and learn about various sustainable techniques, but will be a place to enact them as well. This means as we hold workshops of, let's say, permaculture, conflict resolution, and sustainable business practices - but also a place to test them out. An experimental sustainable community that houses residents, students, woofers, and Dreems of all sorts.

As I mentioned, it is so important to make sure that any action that is taken to build this Eco-Facility and community is based in real, hands on research and experience. In order to do this, we are preparing for a "Cross Country Sustainable Community Research Project" next summer, 2012. This will be my 8 year old Dreem manifested. There is much to do to prepare for this exciting project, including:
  • Create a comprehensive observational and integrative study to conduct at several communities
  • Acquire the "Dreem Machine" research vehicle
  • Assemble a DreemTeam to participate, document, and learn with us
  • Contact several communities (at least ten) to visit across the country and plan the route
  • Accumulate the necessary funding to pay for this research project!
The goal is to travel from California toward the East Coast, where the 2012 Rainbow Gathering is predicted to be held. We will conduct research while crossing the country to set up our second, annual DreemKitchen at the Gathering. This means two major projects to plan and manifest by May or June of next year!

Time to get started!

There will be many newsletters with exciting updates and ways to get involved through the next 10 months, so don't be shy - Plug in where you feel pulled to!
